Frenzy's UFLAIR Second Elimination: It's Flair Time Once More!

It is my third time to watch a flairtending event.  First one was at SM Mall Asia during the GSM Blue's Flair Idol.  Secondly, I got an invite from GSM Blue's Blueniversity, a mixology seminar.  Lastly, I got to see Frenzy's UFlair second leg of eliminations also sponsored by GSM Blue.

I remember during college, one of the courses I’m considering at that time was HRM (Hotel and Restaurant Management) because I wanna become the chef of my own restaurant. I also dreamt of becoming a barista, bartender, and a flairtender.  But I think it’s not really meant for me. It’s for my brother’s. Yes, he’s the one taking it right now.  Once again, I shared this experience to him so he'll get an idea once he will be taking his bartending subject.

To give you a background, flairtending is a performance art that features flamboyant bartenders who flip,  throw, and juggle liquor bottles in the air, and oftentimes even dance to pulsating beats and perform close-up magic tricks.

The difference of Frenzy's UFlair from all my flairtending events is that Frenzy and GSM Blue asked the contestants to come up with tangiest drinks with the inclusion of a ‘secret ingredient’ that is only revealed during the competition.

With the wits, drink mixing skills, flips, and tricks of the 12 promising young finalists from different universities, the second round eliminations really doubled-up the intensity of the competition.

The best from the 12 rest who brought home 5,000 pesos were Arianne Santos from Sienna College - Taytay, Bobby Jenrick Ponce from Our Lady of Fatima - Valenzuela, Samuel Alcantara Jr. from PUP - Sta. Mesa, and Dominique Palileo from University of Perpetual Help System - Biñan.

A race for popularity is also conducted every elimination round that brings more excitement to the participants as well as to their supporters. This time, the popular choice award was given to Jochris Forloso of National College of Business and Arts, bringing home 10,000 pesos.

“The overflowing talents shown on the second round for UFlair made us more excited for the last round on August 17, 2011”, said Norman Campoy, Product Manager of Frenzy Condoms. “The UFlair spirit is so high and the fun will definitely roll towards the finals”, he adds.

The final round will be thoroughly assessed by experts in bartending and flairing, which are Philippe Bartholomi, Diogenes Jaurigue, Joseph Apostol, and Dennis Dungca. Mr. Campoy will also take part in judging to search for the individual that would best represent the product.

Frenzy’s Uflair is supported by the, GSM Blue, Icon Ultimate Club and Dolce Super Club.

When I get my masters... I'll be happy

Are you a dreamer? God gave us special abilities that He wants us to hone and put into practice and having a good education is one I believe.

Mind if I brag a little bit? This is about my friend. His name is not important but his story is. All his life, my friend loved to know what is happening to our country and loved public speech. He wanted to become a broadcaster or a news or field reporter. He'd sit for ours making detailed feature stories.
But things did not always go well for my friend. He was not from a family with a lot of money. Who knew if he'd ever get a chance to go to college? Worst of all, though, was what happened when he was a teenager. His mom died.
Just when he needed his mom most, she was gone. He'd never again hear her encouraging voice. Already a couple of years behind his graduating class, he started college. Working as a fastfood crew, he paid his way. Year by year he persevered. Finally, when he was 21 years old, he graduated from college as a mass communication graduate.

He still had his dream. He knew what God had equipped him to do. So he went for it. He still pursue his dream to have his masteral degree, Master of Arts in Mass Communication.
But he has no idea on how masteral degree goes here in our country. We have a friend in the states who also takes her masteral. She says in the states there are online GMAT review sites where making applications to graduate programs become much easier. She also gave us an idea on how hard it is to go through graduate programs. She tells stories about lousy instructors – class after boring class and do nothing more than go through the textbook in class and point out what sections to read and know. But she says that having a professor like that does not cancel your responsibility to live by. Still continue to be a diligent student.

With all the excitement of beginning your masters or doctorate degree, who would guess you might get homesick? And she told us to remember that the Lord will never leave you. Just pray.
When you start your course, she says, you will have a hard time to do your chores so have someone skilled in the science of laundry, cooking, etc. or just ask for a few pointers from them on making your chores easy.

Of course those who are getting their masters I think are more behave than those who take their college courses. But still we do not know if our friends are the ones who try to convince us to ditch our values, dump them quick!
Lastly, money is still present. Taking up your masters will leave you empty handed so try money management. Oh, she remembered one more thing. Time management! Know your priorities!

If you pass these tests and the real “test”, then surely you will make your parents proud, she says.

And one more thing I want to share a poem by Tom Felten which I also gave to my friend. Hope this encourages him to strive harder. (I only get few phrases).

When I get that new job,

When I get a girlfriend,

When I go to college,

I'll be happy.

When I'm in management,

When I marry that girl,

when I get my degree,

I'll be happy.

When I'm a CEO,

when we have a baby,

when I get my masters,

I'll be happy.

Manila Art Fair 2011: August 25-27 at the NBC Tent

On August 25, it will be my first time to go to an art exhibit as NCCA and BAGO unveil the biggest government-led visual arts initiative at the NBC Tent, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Putting the spotlight on Filipino artists and art pieces revered in the global art scene, the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Bonafide Art Galleries Organization (Bago) unveils the biggest government initiative for visual arts to date – Manila Art 2011.

“Viewers shall witness a groundbreaking launch—the simultaneous opening of various art exhibitions during gala night,” said Delan Lopez Robillos, ManilArt 2011 director. “Exhibitors will not simply be showcasing the works of artists they represent but each gallery shall be presenting a conceptualized art exhibit,” he added.

With over 300 art pieces; representation from the top galleries in the Philippines; and discourses on everything from semiotics to internet art, Manila Art 2011 is touted to be the biggest review of Philippine art. The said event is happening on 24-27 at the NBC Tent in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Now on its third year, ManilArt 2011 promises a more diverse and vibrant art expositionThe maiden run of ManilArt in 2009 had a painting of a jeepney by Onib Olmedo as its banner piece, while 2010 bared Andres Barrioquinto’s “Crystal Gazer.” This year, ManilArt is privileged to have the artistry of highly sought painter Elmer Borlongan with his obra “Batang Edsa.”

This year’s fair features more than 300 represented artists and hundreds of artworks on display. Participating galleries were required to propose unique concepts for their exhibitions.

ManilArt 2011 seeks to merge the visual arts with other disciplines. Programs will include a modern-dance interpretation of Borlongan’s art by premier contemporary-dance maven and Dance Forum founder, Myra Beltran during the gala.

And in continuing its intent to further inform art enthusiasts, the ManilArt lecture series this year includes, among others: “Semiotics in Visual Art” by Oscar V. Campomanes; and “How We Turn Paintings into Bicycles: Lessons in Art, Law, and the Internet,” by Gigo Alampay.

Meanwhile, in commemoration of National Hero José Rizal’s 150th birth anniversary, award-winning poet, fictionist, playwright, and essayist Vim Nadera will give a talk titled “Visuals on Rizal Today.”

Merging the literary and the visual arts, ManilArt 2011 also has a treat for little art fans. Children will enjoy the storybook reading hour at the lecture room.“The Rocking Horse,” which features paintings by Elmer Borlongan will be told aloud by Carisse Escueta, a former preschool teacher who is now executive director of RepubLikha. Radio and TV personalities, Gang Badoy of Rock Ed Philippines and Ramon Bautista, have also been invited to read. Artists in Residence, Inc. (AIR) will give a lecture on basic drawing.

Among the art fair’s goals, in conjunction with promoting Philippine art, are to compound visitorship and strengthen support from both local and foreign exhibitors.

This year, ManilArt 2011 also aims to fortify media relations to expand media coverage that is both more extensive and intensive.

ManilArt 2011 is presented by the Bonafide Art Galleries Organization (Bago) and the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA). For details, call 5316231 or 0917-8511333, or e-mail Visit

SM Beauty Within Section: Now Open to Empower Filipina Women

As I am working around Makati area, I always pass by SM Makati City when I am on my home.  I have noticed the mall's first floor evolution -- from a clothing section... now to a beauty section.

I am happy to witness the launch of SM Beauty Within Section.  Its new concept:  Beauty Within, a plethora of supplements, vitamins and pharmaceuticals geared towards women’s well-being.  From topical to ingestives, SM’s beauty section has got it all.

TV stars/models Iza Calzo, Melissa Ricks,  and Maricar Reyes together with Cristal Henares endorsers of the SM Beauty Within gave us a little inspiration on telling their beauty secrets to us the natural way and of course with the help of the products from SM Beauty Within, Mosbeau, Belo Nutraceuticals, Cosmo Skin, Met Tathione, Myra-E, and Xenical to name a few.

It is good to know that we have beauty experts we can trust around SM Department Store now and no need to put our money into waste in trying a lot of beauty products.  We can directly ask them on what products are really effective even if it is ingestives, facial creams, soaps, or makeup.
