Kulinarya Festival at Bayview Park Hotel Featuring Bicolano Dishes

Bayview Park Hotel, one of the premiere hotels in the metropolis, hosts the run-through of  Kulinarya Festival on May 23, 2011, in cooperation with Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP) and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The Kulinarya Festival is a brainchild of Bayview Park Hotel to adhere to one of the activities that the Department of Tourism has lined up this year to promote culture and heritage of the Philippines not just to the tourists but also with the locals.  In particular, Kulinarya Festival aims to promote authentic Filipino cuisines that our country has to offer.

Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines

This year, Bayview Park Hotel successfully hosts the said project of the DOT and together with the other HRAP members namely the Century Park Hotel, Discovery Suites, CafĂ© Illustrado, Bacolod Chicken Inasal and Serye Restaurant, they will also simultaneously showcase our culinary heritage in the coming months.

Native dishes and  delicacies of Bicol Region (Region V) spearheaded the Kulinarya Festival experience.   Bicolano foods calls to mind if we say hot and spicy.  The locals are really known for their love of spicy foods but in Kulinarya no need to worry about the spices as you will have your choice on the level of spiciness.

Rice is a must for hot and spicy lovers so dig in to Bicol Express and Dahon ng Gabi na Pinangat.

Noodle lovers can recharge with Pansit Bato.

Don't have a tooth for chilis?  Well, here are the Bicolanos native desserts and one unique food to them is the sweetened/caramelized pili nuts.

I, together with the other bloggers Sire Arevalo of Munch and Gulps, Leira Pagaspas of DulceDeLeirs, Jay L Aquino of Blog-PH, Ning Buning of Ning4U, Michelle of Manila Stuff, and Tita Lucy of Pinay Corner were truly appreciative to see these cultural delights first hand.

This buffet experience at the Bayview Park Hotel is really authentic as we were greeted by a festive barrio-styled ambiance and welcomed by Ms. Precy Mendoza and Mr. Eugene Yap of Bayview Park Hotel.

Staff of Bayview Park Hotel
Bayview Park Hotel General Manager Eugene Yap

Here are my favorites and if you happen to pass by Bayview Park Hotel on July, which is the start of the Kulinarya Festival, this would be some of the dishes that you would also expect to feast on.

I begin the meal with a sampling of the Lato Salad.  Lato is a kind of seaweed that is shaped like grapes.  We call it in Ilocano as ar-arosep.  It's been a while since I have eaten lato and it is really refreshing.

How would I forget the this... the pinangat or tinadtaran.  It is bathed in gata and I love the ground fish inside it.  It is really a meal for vegetarians.

And for the final flourish, pili nuts and halo-halo refresh the palate, concluding the meal on a high note.

Bayview Park Hotel will make every lunch a most special treat with Kulinarya Festival this July 2011.  Enjoy Filipino favorites buffet including Ilocano, Bicolano, Kapampangan, and a lot more for only P600.

After the festive treats, we were lucky to be able to roam around Bayview Park Hotel's elegant rooms and facilities.

The Executive Suite

Deluxe Room

Of all the rooms, my eye candy is the executive suite with spacious and Comfortable Living area, Dinning area and Powder room with separate Bedroom with bathroom.  Ms. Precy Mendoza, marketing officer of Bayview Park Hotel, said that this room also serves as a debutante or bride's room so it is really meticulously and elegantly designed.

We also went at the roof deck pool where Ms. Precy Mendoza mentioned that hotel guests are entitled of free use of the facilities once you're booked in the hotel.

It was really tiring but a fun-filled day.  I still haven't digested that ample lunch buffet when I got home and my eyes still feasted on the elegant rooms of Bayview Park Hotel.  I really won't forget that debutante suite...

Phiten Philippines: Health and Fitness Products For the Non-Sport Buffs

Phiten Philippines, the country’s leading sports accessory and apparel provider held a press conference last May to both offline and online media at Hyphy's, Robinson's Galleria Ortigas to reintroduce the brands commitment for health and wellness.

Phiten staff together with Coach Jun Saret, an international sports training consultant (and yes, he is the guy you see at The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition on ABS-CBN airing at prime time) demonstrated Phiten products’ benefits for balanced energy flow and blood circulation.

I remember him giving tips on how to start and maintain an active lifestyle especially to those who are sedentary (or stationary people meaning not doing exercises or activities).  He also taught to the bloggers and the media how to exercise in less than 5 minutes which he also shared to the contestants of Biggest Loser Philippines.  These exercises are very effective for sedentary people like me, hahaha, and with the use of Phiten.  But what really is Phiten that I am talking about?

Phiten executives from Japan reintroduced the to us the brand.  Phiten is an innovative Japanese brand of aquametal-infused wearable technology in form of various accessories and apparel.

Phiten was founded in 1982 by its president, Yoshihiro Hirata, an alternative medicine practitioner. “We are helping people enhance their quality of life around the globe, building on our Phiten philosophy of health, energy, and well-being,” said Hirata in Phiten’s Official website.

Now found in countries over Asia, Europe, and US, Phiten continues to create waves in the scientific community.

“Nano-technology is the breaking down of titanium, silver, and gold minerals to nano particles which are then infused in the materials used to make Phiten products,” said Ronaldo Colmenar, general manager of Sports, Entertainment and Events Management, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Phiten in the country.

The technology restores, if not maintains the optimum balance of the body. Phiten, together with a healthy diet and good exercise and sports programs like biking and running, can also help fight chronic stress brought about by a busy lifestyle.

Colmenar added, “Phiten is not a craze or trend. It is a lifestyle brand that promotes health, style and comfort for people-on-the-go and sports enthusiasts who want to be in their best state always.”

To learn more about Phiten’s health benefits and to see its wide array of products, log on to www.phitenphil.com or visit any Phiten shop kiosk and consigned stores nationwide. Be updated and on the know of Phiten’s promos and sale on facebook.  www.facebook.com/phitenphilippines

UNICEF Auction for Action Happens on May 25!

Do you paintings, furnitures, jewelries and other works of art of other Filipino artists like Kenneth Cobonpue?  Then here is your chance to grab their unique pieces and at the same time help children have a brighter future by joining this one of a kind auction.

UNICEF Philippines is launching its first fundraising online auction entitled Auction for Action: A UNICEF Fundraising Online Auction to benefit children’s programs in the Philippines and worldwide (www.ebay.ph/unicef goes live on May 25, 2011). This unique online auction in partnership with Ayala Malls, Ebay.ph and Cibo brings together works of reputable artists in art, design, furniture, fashion, jewellery and photography along with exciting experiential packages.

Featured artists are: Manny Baldemor, Michael Cacnio, Celestina, Seb Chua, Kenneth Cobonpue, Araceli Limcaco Dans, Kristine Dee, Janina Dizon, Mich Dulce, Tom Epperson, Accessory Lab, Ito Kish, E. Billy Mondoñedo, Ramon Orlina, Debbie Palao, Ling Quisumbing Ramilo, Benji Reyes, Popo San Pascual, Joey Samson, Vito Selma, Victor Sollorano, Paul Syjuco, Ricky Toledo and Chito Vijandre of FIRMA/Felicity, Reg Yuson, and UNICEF Special Advocate for Children, Ms. Daphne Oseña Paez.

Galerie Joaquin artists such Jovan Benito, Jomar Delluba, Hamzah Marbella, Dominic Rubio and  Juvenal Sanso are also participating.

Experiential packages include dinner by Chef Tonyboy Escalante of Antonio’s and dugout experience with the Philippine Football Team or Azkals on July 3 at the World Cup qualifier in Manila.

Bianca Gonzales, Vanessa Tobin, Daphne Oseña-Paez

UNICEF Country Representative Vanessa Tobin shares, “This is a first for UNICEF Philippines. Our partnership with acclaimed artists via online auction helps us engage the public in a new and interesting way. As well as raising important funds for our work, we will be able to raise awareness of important issues affecting children in the most disadvantaged communities of the Philippines and worldwide.”

“I know a lot of people recognize UNICEF’s valuable work in children’s rights, but few realize that UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary contributions to support its work on the ground. I’ve helped them educate moms all over the country on maternal health, mortality and breastfeeding. This time, I want to help UNICEF raise awareness and funds for all their other goals: providing children with health care, access to safe water and sanitation, education, and protection from violence, abuse and exploitation,” said UNICEF Special Advocate for Children Daphne Oseña Paez.
For Daphne, “the response from artists has been very encouraging, to say the least. It feels incredible to be able to work with such prominent artists for a worthwhile cause. I’m a great fan of
their work, but now I’m in even greater awe of their kindness and generosity. They put a lot of love and devote a lot of time into everything they create, so I know that beyond the beautiful art piece, the artists are really sharing a part of themselves with UNICEF.“

Celebrity host and also a UNICEF Special Advocate for Children Bianca Gonzalez adds, “I’ve been working with UNICEF since 2007 and I’m very excited to be a part of this unique fundraising auction. Whilst online auctions are quite new to the Philippines, it’s very secure and the best thing is you can participate from anywhere in the country.”

Auction for Action: A UNICEF Fundraising Online Auction on www.ebay.ph/unicef will go live on May 25, 2011. Watch out for exciting items up for bidding and help make a difference for children.

Tour of Hope 2011: Saving 500 Women Against Cervical Cancer

To be a part of The Tour of Hope 2011 – 500: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer, please email Joyette Jopson at joyette.jopson@gmail.com or contact her at 0917-8827352.

How far would you go to save 500 women?
“Tour of Hope 2011- 00: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer,” cyclists will take 500 kilometers in 5 days. The bikers  will undertake the challenging 5-day journey from Manila to Laoag in order to help raise funds for cervical cancer prevention vaccination drives and seminars.

Tour of Hope 2011, in partnership with Bravehearts, Team David’s Salon and GlaxoSmithKline, is going to vaccinate a total of 500 women during the tour.

In a country where cervical cancer claims the lives of 12 women everyday, the need to fight this disease has only become more urgent over the years.

However, if you think that The Tour of Hope is all about the bikers, think again. Over the past two years, the event organizers have formed partnerships with local government units such as those of Tarlac, Dagupan, Pampanga, La Union, and Baguio in order to conduct lectures during each stopover of the tour to local communities with marginalized groups who display poor health-seeking behavior.

What’s in Store for The Tour of Hope 2011

Aside from the challenging journey, The Tour of Hope has always been known for bringing its participants to scenic locations such as Vigan, Zambales, and Camarines Sur. This year is no exception. The Tour of Hope 2011 - 500: Going the Xtra Mile Against Cervical Cancer will kick off at the TriNoma Mall in Quezon City on May 28, 2011.

The first stop will be at Tarlac City, Tarlac. It is the home of President Noynoy Aquino’s ancestral house and Mount Pinatubo, where adventure-seeking 4x4 wheel drivers try their skills, and hikers visit the crater. The tour will then continue to San Fernando, La Union, where the renowned La Union Botanical Gardens is located. Afterwards, the bikers will head to Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, where historical churches and ancestral homes that reflect the beauty of old world architecture can be found. The fourth stop will be Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, where tourists often visit the Juan Luna Shrine. There, visitors can get a glimpse of the award-winning Spolarium painter’s life through vintage photographs and household artifacts. The final stop for this year’s Tour of Hope is Paoay, where bikers will get to see the unique blend of Spanish, Chinese, and architecture represented by Paoay Church, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The last leg of the tour will feature celebrity bikers such as Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal, Marvin Kiefer, Rovilson Fernandez, Troy Montero, Aubrey Miles, Will Devaughn, Richie Hardin, Richard Herrera, Janna Victoria, Gem Padilla, Anthony Pangilinan, and David Charlton. They will be lending their star power to draw attention to a good cause. In addition, Tessa Prieto-Valdes is currently working on a special project that will also help raise funds for cervical cancer prevention.

As part of the preparations for the upcoming Tour of Hope, there will also be a Mini Tour of Hope that will be held on May 7 at Filinvest, Alabang. This is a great way for biking enthusiasts to show their support for the anti-cervical cancer advocacy, and everyone is invited to join.

“On behalf of Bravehearts, I’d like to encourage everyone to join the fight against cervical cancer,” Abbygale Arenas-de Leon said. “For all the women, do it for your families and loved ones. And for all the men, I encourage you to support the cervical cancer prevention advocacy for your mothers, sisters, and daughters. With your help, thousands of lives can be saved.”

Sta. Elena: The City of "AuthentiCity"

Sta. Elena City is Vista Land’s 300-hectare masterplan located at the heart of Sta. Rosa, Laguna.  Masterplanned by Asya Design Partner, 120 of the total 300 hectares have already been developed.   Vista Land was the first to pioneer the idea of different themed enclaves, such as La Residencia, Belle Reve, Promenade, Fontamara and the more recent Georgia Club and Augusta, all in one area.
This is more than just sales jobs for the  people who are selling house and lots. They are offering families a chance to have their own community. To belong to a safe neighborhood where everyone knows each other by name and parents will have that sense of security.

The Legacy of Quiros
The Quiros family is synonymous with Sta. Rosa, a land that is bound by tradition and style that makes it unlike any other region in the country. The family has left its indelible mark by the numerous developments in the area. They echo the rich colorful past during the explosive growth of the sugar industry. The area is a skillfully master planned development that embraces existing projects like Hacienda Sta. Elena, Mesa Land, Belle Reve, Promenade, etc.
Sta. Elena is located in Sta. Rosa, the fast rising new residential area and financial district of the South, just a short 45 minute drive to Makati’s CBD.
The Quiros family together with Vista Land envisioned a development in the South that successfully combines old world charm with world class developments that co-exist with its natural environment. The Quiros family made a commitment to develop the land of their heritage into a premier master-planned city. With Vista Land as their partner, that vision has now come to full fruition.

Setting Sta. Elena apart from other developments are its meticulously designed themed subdivisions. Inspired by the world’s most charming destinations, residents can choose to come home to English gardens, Spanish haciendas, Italian villas or Georgian colonial houses, depending on which style best suits their tastes.
a. Valenza – From the Italian word Valence, meaning Balance, this 13.7 hectare Italian Inspired community was launched in 2005 by Crown Asia, still remains to be one of the preferred neighborhoods of people who value the finer things in life. With unrivaled architectural detail, amenities such as a grand lap pool, a luxurious clubhouse, basketball and tennis courts, parks and playgrounds; Valenza clearly epitomizes the unsurpassed standard of Family-Centric Italian Living. Offering competitively priced Lots and Home packages, this development undoubtedly ranks above its league.
b.  Belle Reve – French for “a beautiful dream,” this 20-hectare French Mediterranean-inspired development is aptly named. 50% of the community is devoted to open spaces. Custom home sites are surrounded by countless courtyards with beautifully landscaped gardens where no 2 are alike. Dotted with countless aged trees, Brittany’s quest to preserve the natural landscape is evident in the trees kept intact; there are even some in the middle of the road. (Lot cuts range from 500-800sqm)
d. Promenade – This 20-hectare community was the answer to Belle Reve’s great success with investment buyers. Inspired by the beautiful English gardens, this stunning sprawling community is full of vibrant garden mazes, statues imported from Europe and lovely flowers. Brittany took the theme a bit further by creating a charming secret garden within the community. (Lot cuts range from 500-800sqm)
e. Hacienda de Sta. Elena – Perhaps the most exclusive community in Sta. Rosa, this 32 hectare development by Mesa Land (a company owned by the Quiros family), personifies what “Hacienda Living” is all about…unparalleled wide open spaces, a picturesque manmade lake (the first in Sta. Rosa) and sprawling tree abounding milieu. With lot cuts of almost 1 hectare per property, this estate is reserved only for the privileged and affluent few.
f. Augusta – Launched in 2008 by Brittany Corporation in partnership with the Quiros Family, this 15 hectare American inspired community allowed buyers to have a piece of the exceedingly valued properties in Sta. Rosa at an affordable price without compromising expensive taste, quality and impeccable aesthetic value. Currently being offered are Lots and Home packages. Still with a good number of available inventory, Augusta gives an opportunity for end users and investors alike to have a slice of the pie of the growing illustrious Sta. Rosa community.
g. Georgia Club – A charming 15-hectare development inspired by the American Southern State of its namesake. The community is designed to both encourage and preserve a way of life that recognizes friendship and family as integral components to the enjoyment of life. A Mecca for nature lovers, Georgia Club is a sprawling woodland with over 1,200 trees that are over 50 years old, including Narra, Mahogany, Acacia and Gmelina. Plus, in a survey done by the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, Georgia Club is seen to be a sanctuary to at least 25 different species of birds.
Pioneered by Brittany Corporation in partnership with the Quiros Family, the community boasts of authentic Southern architectural detail, open spaces, scenic jogging paths, a children’s park, a charming clubhouse with pool and tennis court amidst a backdrop of old majestic trees and songs of fluttering birds, it isn’t hard to imagine why this piece of property has enticed so many to call it their home. Currently offering Lots and Home Packages.
h. Fontamara – Built in 1997 by Brittany Corporation, This 3-hectare community is named after a quaint village in Southern Italy. Made to be very exclusive, the development is rich in Italian details such as the lovely cobblestone entrance gateway.
Commercial Area and Adjacent Leisure Facilities
Sta. Elena’s Commercial Hub will rise in a 7 Hectare Lot located at the back of the current staging area of Georgia Club and Augusta. The proposed commercial center will be unique in its design, working with the natural landscape of the area and shall be executed by internationally acclaimed masterplanners. Establishments will include the following:
1. Restaurants
2. Supermarkets
3. Coffee Shops
4. Outlet Stores
5. Sports Facilities
6. Events Venue
Surrounding Golf Courses

2. b. The Country Club – an 18-hole facility designed by Tom Wieskopf.
Both fairways are considered among the best in Asia, attracting many an avid golfer to take up residence across the green in one of Sta. Elena’s luxury estates.
Educational Facilities
Two prestigious educational institutions have chosen to build their history of excellence in Sta. Elena:
1. University of Santo Tomas – the oldest University in Asia will rise in a 45 hectare property within the Sta. Elena Estate.
2. Acacia Waldorf School – An exclusive and renowned pre-school and elementary inside Hacienda Sta. Elena known for its holistic approach to teaching.
Other renowned schools in the area are De La Salle Canlubang, Don Bosco Canlubang, St. Scholastica’s College  and Brent International School.
Living in AuthentiCity
Sta. Elena is REAL. It already exists and continues to grow naturally into a bigger community. Its promises already fulfilled.
They are not about dreaming of the future, they are about living in the now.
They are not about engineered landscapes, they are about creating natural landscapes.
They are not about Manufactured Cities, they are about Co-existing Communities.
They are not about building from nothing, they are about working with what’s existing.
They are not about manipulating nature, they are about working with nature.
They are not about inventors of nature, they are about stewards of nature.
In Sta. Elena, they continue with what nature has started and capitalize on its natural beauty.
They are Authentic not just in their communities but also in their promise.

PROACTIV Solution Anti-Acne System Now Available in the Philippines

Good thing I do not have a sensitive skin.  Even if I "eat a bowl of peanuts and stay late" at night, I am still free of pimples.  Seriously, do you believe in this kind of beauty myth?

A lot of teenagers on the spectrum of puberty will experience body changes and one of it is having acne.  Some say it is genetic but the most factor in the formation of acne is hormonal.

I really believe that the cause is hormonal and we should not blame it to the chocolates and peanuts.  My brother is already 21 years old and he still has scattered acne on his face.  He has tried a lot of products whether topical or ingested drugs for acne but they still don't work.
